LAHORE:

With Lahore being closed down to on account of the Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool, two international film festivals running in Lahore had to turn their projectors off for the day, organisers said.

The Rafi Peer International Film Festival, which had started in the city on Thursday, and was scheduled to screen six films at the Rafi Peer Cultural Complex in Raiwind on its second day, stopped screenings after situation in the city grew precarious.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, promotions manager at Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop Maliha Aftab said that films couldn’t be screened because of serious security issues in the city.

Aftab further said that the blocking of mobile networks in major cities had caused great difficulty to the organisers who were unable to discuss the rescheduling of shows and the event.

“We hope to add a few films from Friday’s screenings to the rest of the screenings in the festival’, she said, confirming that the festival will resume on Saturday as per previous schedule. She added that details about the program would be updated on their Facebook page soon.

The festival was due to film Pakistani film ‘Salakhain’ along with films from Iran, India and Bangladesh.

Organised by the RPTW, the festival will conclude on Sunday.

Children’s film festival postponed

The fourth Lahore International Children’s Film Festival, which started screening on September 18 in the city at the Ali auditorium, also halted its screening in the face of protests.

Noman Qureishi, a member of the organising team at The Little Art confirmed that screenings scheduled for Friday had been postponed because of the prevailing law and order situation in the city. He added that the screenings postponed on Friday would be screened next Friday, September 28.

Friday was the sixth day of the festival. It will resume as per schedule on Saturday.
