ISLAMABAD:

Civic education should be introduced at all levels of education, said HEC Executive Director Professor Dr Sohail H Naqvi on Sunday. He was speaking at a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (IUCPSS) and Centre for Civic Education Pakistan (CCEP).

The two groups have decided to work together to promote civic education in Pakistan. The main avenues of mutual cooperation in the agreement include inviting faculty and research scholars for training and workshops, collaborating in research, arranging seminars and conferences, introducing diploma or certificate courses on human rights education and sharing one another`s facilities and expertise.

Dr Naqvi said that the HEC is committed to promote social sciences in the country and has initiated “special programmes” in the past 10 years. He assured that HEC will help IUCPSSS and CCEP in their collaboration. He also underlined the need of close relationship between universities and civil society organisations to address the various social problems being confronted by people.
