FAISALABAD:

The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) has launched a campaign to recover arrears from defaulters of Rs500,000 and above, Fesco spokesperson Tahir Sheikh announced on Wednesday.

He said last year a similar campaign to recover arrears from chronic defaulters on the directions of the Ministry of Water and Power was supervised by Chief Executive Officer Iftikhar Ahmad.

The new campaign, he said, was also supervised by Ahmed. So far, he said, the campaign had yielded positive results. Action had been initiated against the ‘big fish’.

Sheikh said 24 major defaulters owed total of Rs43.73 million. These also include some industrial units in the district, he said.

He said the Fesco chief executive officer has issued directions to the field officials to regularly monitor the disconnected units. He had also directed them to disconnect electricity supply of those helping the defaulters by sharing their electricity supply.

The superintending engineers and other officers concerned have warned the defaulters to make the pending payments or lose all connections issued in their names, the spokesperson said.

He said the campaign expected to go on for two months. Sheikh said information on the defaulters was available on Fesco’s website: www.fesco.com.pk.
