Police performance: 82 of 1,118 cases registered in August, solved

Bahawalpur police claim to have arrested 363 criminals, 41 court absconders and 2,798 suspects.

BAHAWALPUR: As many as 82 of the 1,118 FIRs registered with police stations in Bahawalpur in August have been disposed of, says a statement issued by the district police on Saturday.

The FIRs involved robberies, thefts and murders.

The statement says 363 wanted criminals, 41 court absconders and 2,798 suspects were caught during the month.

Of these, 79 criminals belonged to 19 criminal gangs busted by the police.

Police recovered stolen goods worth Rs597.5 million 16 motorcycles, 15 cell phones and 72 cattle.

Of the 1,118 cases registered in August, 121 were of possession of illegal weapons, 14 of gambling and 126 of drug peddling. As many as 120 suspects were arrested and eight rifles, 12 guns and repeaters, 89 revolvers and 12 carbines seized from them.

As many as 147 drug peddling suspects were arrested and 7.74 kilos of hashish, 3,478 litres of local liquor, 746 litres of imported liquor seized from them. The police also arrested 36 people for drinking in public.

In the 14 gambling cases, 58 suspects were arrested and Rs165,000  seized from them.

The city police seized 203 vehicles for the drivers’ failure to produce registration documents.
