Fair Elections?: JI calls for opposition party alliance

PESHAWAR: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Syed Munawar Hassan called for a grand opposition alliance on Saturday to push the government to conduct free and fair elections.

Addressing a press conference after a two-day visit to Peshawar, he said that JI has finalised their list of candidates for the upcoming elections. He also claimed that they had the support of other opposition parties. In his speech, he said JI had a three point agenda, which includes an  independent election commission, transparent voter lists and a caretaker setup. Hassan also opposed military action in North Waziristan.
