BANNU:

Havaid police have apprehended a proclaimed offender, Sher Ali Baz on Friday, who had escaped during the Bannu jail break on April 15. The jail was stormed by militants of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

SHO Saadullah Khan said that he along with other police were on a routine patrol when they heard the sound of an explosion.  When they rushed to the spot, they found an unconscious man in critical condition. “We shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital,” he said, adding that his right hand was amputated from the elbow due to the explosion.

Relatives of the victim insisted on shifting him to some other hospital when they saw the police. “We were later informed that the injured man was Sher Ali Baz, who is wanted for involvement in a murder case and had fled from the prison when militants attacked the jail,” Khan said.

The SHO said that the accused was arrested last year but escaped from the jail during the militants’ assault.

When Baz found himself in police custody, he told the police that his adversaries hurled a hand grenade at him when he was on his way home to Ismail Mama Khel.

The doctors referred the accused to the Lady Reading Hospital, said Khan, adding that Baz will be treated in their custody.
