The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain gave the new local government system in Sindh a thumbs up as he congratulated the government for legislating on the long-awaited ordinance.
Hussain said that the restoration of the local government system was an important step for the transfer of powers to the lowest level, solving problems and creating unity between people of the province. He made the comments in a conversation with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and the leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the MQM. He also appealed to all political parties to support the policy for the sake of Sindh’s people, to help solve their problems and provide them justice.
The party chief congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari, the Sindh governor and chief minister, and the ministers, workers, elected representatives and leaders of the PPP and the MQM. He also praised the members of the core committees from both parties who have been negotiating on the ordinance.
“President Asif Ali Zardari and I have sworn to stick with each other. You should also move forward positively and work together for Sindh’s progress and serve the people of the province,” he said addressing the leaders of both parties. “Karachi is not just a part of Sindh but also its capital. We and our future generations have to live together and repay the debt of Sindh. The people who are permanent residents of Sindh and whose lives are associated with Sindh have a greater responsibility.” He also told them to make Sindh peaceful and work towards solving the basic issues of people in the province.
“Establish a system where there is no injustice to anyone, crime is eliminated, the law applies to everyone and there should be across-the-board action against anyone who breaks the law,” he said.
Among those at the meeting was one of President Asif Ali Zardari’s closest men, Owais Muzaffar, as well as the chief minister and ministers Agha Siraj Durrani and Sharjeel Inam Memon.
