LAHORE: Police and other law-enforcement agencies were directed by the chief minister (CM) to devise a foolproof security plan for Fridays and Hazrat Ali (RA)’s martyrdom anniversary on Ramazan 21.

During a high level meeting to review the law and order situation in the province, the CM also said that stern action should be taken against those who distribute hate literature or provocative material or deliver speeches to the same effect.

He added that provincial ministers will be assigned responsibilities in different districts on Ramazan 21 to ensure effective security arrangements.

Sharif told the meeting that a Counter Terrorism Department had been set up to cope with the rising incidents of terrorism adding that competent officers would be posted to the department within a week.

During the meeting the law and order situation in flood-hit areas was also discussed. Police were told to ensure that the houses of the flood victims were protected from robbers and bandits.

Reception centres set up in the flood hit areas were directed by the chief minister to make sure that they keep records of all relief goods that are delivered.

Sharif also directed the police to provide effective security for these trucks so that relief items could be supplied and distributed among the affected people in an orderly and fair manner. Sharif also issued instructions to the chief secretary that relief goods be stored at government buildings and godowns instead of private ones.

Details regarding the location and destination of these items should also be available at reception centres, he added. Sharif also appreciated the role of the Rajanpur DPO during relief efforts. During the meeting, the chief minister also issued instructions for setting up a joint investigation team for the early recovery of a trader kidnapped from Model Town.

Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, chief secretary, home secretary, IG, CCPO and other senior officers attended the meeting.
