Two injured, 8 houses damaged in DI Khan

DI KHAN:


Two people were injured and at least eight houses were damaged due to heavy rains in Dera Ismail Khan and surrounding areas of Pehar Pur and Kulachi tehsils on Tuesday.


The rain started early in the morning and continued for at least 6 hours, disrupting electric supply and communication networks in the areas. Crops were damaged and traffic on a number of roads and bridges connecting DI Khan to neighbouring areas was also suspended.

In Pehar Pur Tehsil, two people were injured when the roof of their house in Molyan Wala area collapsed, while seven other houses were damaged or destroyed.

According to the Pakistan Metrological Department, the rain started at around 5:50am and continued till 11:20am. Exactly 65.7mm rain was recorded in DI Khan city; however, the intensity of the rain was most severe in Pehar Pur Tehsil, Aurrangzeb Khan, an official of the Met Office in DI Khan said.

Rainwater accumulated in the streets of DI Khan city and adjacent areas of Moryallee, Deyal and Dhekan Walee. Electricity supply remained suspended for seven hours in the areas.

Gomel River overflowed and flooded crop fields in Tehsil Kulachi of DI Khan and in Tatta and Waraspon union councils.
