Port project: Gwadar ‘sale’ challenged in SC

LAHORE: The possible sale of shares in Gwadar port to a Chinese company has been challenged in the Supreme Court Lahore registry. The Watan Party filed the petition through its chairman Barrister Zafarullah Khan. The petitioner submitted that the Port of Singapore Authority, which owns a 60 per cent stake in the project, and its partners the Aqeel Karim Dhedi Group and the National Logistics Cell were about to sell their shares to the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited. Khan submitted that the Gwadar port shares were the property of the people of Pakistan and they would suffer if the shares were sold. He asked the court to stay the sale of the shares to China or any other country.
