A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has extended the interim bail of former Balochistan chief minister Jam Yusuf and ex-federal interior minister Aftab Sherpao in the Nawab Bugti murder case.
The court ordered the Crime Branch to investigate the case and record fresh statements of Sherpao. The ex-minister said that he was not taken into confidence while military action was launched against Nawab Bugti and his comrades-in-arms.
Meanwhile, Iftikhar Gilani, defence counsel for Aftab Sherpao told reporters that the prosecution was yet to identify the place where Nawab Bugti was ambushed and killed. He also said that the prosecution had not taken the case seriously to this date.
Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti was the head of the Bugti tribe in Balochistan. On August 26 2004, he was killed in a hideout in Kohlu. His death left widespread unrest in the province.
