Another motion against the MQM

Awami National Party (ANP) on Thursday filed a privilege motion against the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

Before this the MQM had submitted two motions against PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif in response of an earlier motion submitted by the PML-N against Altaf Hussain.

The timeline is as follows:

August 22: MQM chief Altaf Hussain makes his speech urging “any patriotic general” to take steps against corrupt politicians and feudalism.

August 24: PML-N submits privilege motion against the MQM chief in the National Assembly.

The motion said that the statements issued by Altaf Hussain were against the spirit of democracy and the sanctity of the parliament.


At least 87 PML-N members signed the privilege motion.

August 25: Jamat-e-Islami submits privilege motion against Altaf Hussain in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

Mufti Kifayatullah and Shah Hussain submitted the motion that stated that Altaf Hussain’s remarks are contrary to the constitution.

August 26: MQM submits two adjournment motions against PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif in the Senate.

The first motion stated that Nawaz Sharif has continuously been hiding facts and making false assertions regarding his exile. The second motions said that secret meetings between Chaudhry Nisar and Mian Shahbaz Sharif and the chief of army staff were against the spirit of democracy.

The motions were submitted by MQM senators Babar Ghouri, Ahmed Ali, Abdul Haseeb Khan and Abdul Khaliq Peerzada.

August 26: ANP submits motion against the MQM in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
