Drought-struck areas: Relief efforts to be made

KARACHI: The National Disaster Management Authority will coordinate with the United Nations to help those affected by the drought in Sindh. The authority’s chairman, Zafar Iqbal Qadir, said this at a meeting held with the Sindh relief minister, Haleem Adil Sheikh on Sunday. “Our team is active in the field and will do everything necessary,” said Sheikh. His department needs food, shelter and other items for relief interventions. Sheikh met with the federal climate change minister, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, to discuss what measures must be taken. “We are committed to supporting the people and will continue to support them even in the next government,” said Khan. He added that his ministry lacked funds and needs support from the Sindh and federal governments. In the coming week, Khan, Sheikh and Qadir will visit the affected areas in Tharparkar.
