Virus outbreak: Another Congo fever patient reported

KARACHI: Another patient suffering from Congo fever was reported at the Aga Khan University Hospital on Friday. Twenty-year-old Shahid Nadeem lives in the SITE area and is from Balochistan. He was admitted to the hospital on August 24. Since January, 10 cases of the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, which is caused by infection with a tick-borne virus, have been reported in different hospitals. Five were reported at the Liaquat National Hospital, three at the Aga Khan University Hospital and one each at the National Institute of Blood Diseases and Patel Hospital. Three of the patients died of the fever.
