His success was celebrated in a traditional way, amidst Pakistani folk songs. His family was very happy on their son’s achievement.
Despite topping the exams, his dream of becoming a doctor will have to be put on hold since his shoe maker father, who earns Rs100-150 a day, cannot afford Revtash's education any further. Instead, he now assists his father at his shoe shop.
“I make shoes to earn a living but sadly, not enough to support my son’s education. I hope the government can help us,” Revtash’s proud father hoped.
This news came a few days after that of Muhammad Mohsin, the son of a former labourer of Hafizabad and a worker at a tandoor who topped the Punjab University B.A/B.Sc exams by obtaining 688 marks.

You should migrate to INDIA.. :)
why is the word "hindu" highlighted in the title.hes just a normal guy who cares if he is hindu or muslim.
@Hina: I will support him as well. could you please try to find the address or any contact from Tribune office?
there should be a government funded educational grant program in Pakistan for the top students and this kid definitely deserves one. If the current government wants to be remembered for atleast ONE good thing... this is the best opportunity!! Well done kiddo... well done!!
@Dr Shams: @Hina: Vienna,September 2,2012 Dear Madam, I would suggest you get in touch on the next working day the Pakistani representative of Doctors Without Borders,MSF, in French or Ärzte Ohne Grenze in German. They should be able to help you. You may be helping them. Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
I am ready to help this child ,,,,, the question is how?????? Can somebody plzz telll
I am ready to help this guy ,,,, the question is how????
@Deepjyoti Gogoi: Correction: A business person (or any person), Hindu or Muslim (or any other religion/non religion), in Pakistan should step up and support this boy. He's a Pakistani and as such, Pakistanis should support him absolutely. Religion needs to be kept out of it entirely. Hats off to you Revtash Kumar. Hope you achieve all that you desire and more!
Ahmadinejad of Iran also comes from a shoemaker background. I hope Revtash Kumar one day can walk in Ahmadinejad shoes in Pakistan!
Prime Minister has granted Rs. 5 million cash award and govt will bear his educational expenses. Thank you progressive govt which does not discriminate its citizens.
How come no follow up express tribune?? This kid got awarded 500,000 by the Punjab government
I am ready to help this kid but I dont know how. If somebody opens an account in the name of this kid, i will be very pleased to contribute.
Regards SZ
Dear Revtash Kumar,
Well done, It seems a lot of great people - real humans are on this forum offering help, let every one come forward and commit / give what ever they wish, if there is any thing short, I will give you the balance, if you get surplus, I will still contribute and the surplus should be used to give your parents and siblings a grand treat for letting you come so far in life.
You have a great family; they have all sacrificed something to let you study, don't forget them when you become Doctor; specially your father, his hard earned money got you this far and if you continue getting these results, get top positions, the funds will be provided by your well wishers
T.C Doc! All the best to you Anis ur Rehman
plz send me your email / contact number / address
Vienna,September 1,2012 It is all about ET story´s credibility and beyond the credibility of Pakistan. Of the 40 comments here including mine half a dozen are eager to help.Another four are positive. We can not reach Revtesh Kumar ourselves with out ET co-operation. If you now go silent you hit hardest your partner the International Herald Tribune and the parent The New York Times. I would be looking up again after few hours. Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
I have tears in my eyes reading all this we must not give up hope in this world there are still lot of good people in this world who love humanity.
India offers some full scholarships for students from other countries. I would suggest that this student contact the Indian Embassy or the Government of India for more details and how to apply.
You have my email address. Like a number of other concerned readers who have left comments..if you could please also let me know how I can provide some sort of financial support in any way ..please let me and the others who have asked know..the sooner would be better
here religion of this or any other child does not matters lack of support fron religious bigiots and only the poverty of this child is. The lack of support from pakstans' rich peoples and their selfish Government ,that doesn't see talant of its' childern .
I would like to donate to fund his further education as well. How can we help get this started?
Son! Well done and congratulations. It is time for Punjab/central government to act. His social background should not stand in his way in achieving his academic goals.
Government must support the brilliant son of Pakistan.
Very good. Indian govt should offer him a visa so that he can study in one of the IITs or govt college.
@Kulamarva Balakrishna: Thanks for the sentiments. BTW, though I love Sardars and have lot of Sikh friends, I am a Hindu from Rajasthan
i am willing to make concrete proposal. It is this if some one open an A/C fot this lad with one of u.k bank which only give access to this lad only. Iam willing to put annualy £200.00 into. For his education.
If the Govt. is not willing to support these young scholars, I will request the management of MQM to look into it and help these boys and girls to continue their education and fulfill their dreams.
He is a Pakistani and deserves an equal opportunity. Lets get together and fund his education. The boy deserves a good chance. Let's do it for him.
@Saladin Chamchawalla: I laud your sentiments, sir. "Each one, help one!"
Well done. I hope TCF or another NGO - if not the government - steps up to provide this very talented young man a scholarship.
the level of reporting and journalism with the exception of few is third class...there was no need to mention Hindu shoemaker's son
@Hukum Singh: Vienna,August 31,2012 Sardar Hukum Singh, Sat Sri Akal. There was a Sardar Hukum Singh I think he was the speaker of Lok Sabha, correct me if I am wrong. You are no less.A reader Mr.Chamchawala, and a Bruised Indian have come forward with offers. You are the third. If you take interest we can make it for not one but all Pakistani children boys and girls without any discrimination. But let us wait the response of Express Tribune. Their co-operation make our offer to reach right on the targeted young Pakistani people.I can be reached by e mail through the Express Tribune. The sense of the pudding is in eating. The happiness of eating is in sharing the food. Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
I would like to help pay for his education as much as I can.
@BRUISED INDIAN: Vienna,August 31,2012 You are the second reader I respond. I had left behind already a proposal in my first comment. You appear to be young that means you can take some interest more than a sick old man like me.When I know things would go fair and smooth I can help.No throw away cash but a helping hand. I have responded to Mr.Chamchawala here. Let us see what comes of it from ET side.Mind you, I used to know Azim Premji´s father. Now Azim is investing billions of dollars for non discriminative education of Indian children. Are you aware? Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
@Saladin Chamchawalla: Vienna,August 31,2012 Great, congratulations! I had just left a comment behind without reading your offer. But challenging readers like you. It is not an individual matter but the future of all Pakistani children with out religious, sect, gender discrimination. If you organize with ET a Non Governmental Organization, NGO I can help the way I promised. I have, I repeat, have helped the late murdered journalist Saleem Shahzad´s children through the asiatimesonline. You can read my letter on their archive. My help would be on similar conditions. But this help will be with a broader perspective. Want to try me? Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna.
Vienna,August 31,2012 My journalist friend Akhil Hussain´s sister, Nafis all on her own, runs a vocational school for 2000 plus girls in Karnul, South India. Religion or caste no problem. She takes care of them.Let me ask the Pakistani readers of ET will you together launch a Non Governmental Organization NGO to educate children without considering their religion and sects. Come on it is a challenge, for assured non discriminatory institution for young people you can get help. I am retired live hand to mouth. But I can and am willing to help.I have helped the murdered journalist Saleem Shahzad,is that name correct of the late murdered Pakistani journalist, his children the fund caused to be launched by me through asiatimes on line. You can read my letter there. My help would be on similar conditions. We say drops make a river, rivers make a sea, seas grow into oceans. But some assured responsible initiative it should be.Will the ET try on such a project for Pakistani children? I am sure The International Herald Tribune and its readers would be happy to give their hands in appreciative support. Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
I would like to pay for his education. Bhagwan ki dua se hum thik-thak hai. There is no one more deserving than this kid. Facing discrimination of being a minority and lower caste in a country like Pakistan and achieving so much? He needs to be supported and groomed every step of the way.
Colleges and universities must have a few seats reserved for such students and impart education free of cost to them and extend some cash benefit to the family.
When Rimshah allegedly desecrated the Qura'n, was there a need to put a Masih in front of her name? Was it neccessary to mention her parents religion?
congrats ... even i am pakistani hindu...so proud of you...u have really made hindus of pakistan proud... hope more hindus prosper just like u
@M Hasan: Right, normally religion has nothing to do with this, but recently minorities are treated harshly socially and maligned, so it makes difference now to say that minorities can perform well in society and can be progressive.
Instead of all commentators asking the goverment to help this guy out, I propose well all pool in to fund his education. I start with $100.00...
Proud of you Revtash. Keep it up and win laurels for Pakistan.
It would have still worked without mentioning his religion ET...Useless stuff!
One of the rich Hindu businessmen of Pakistan should step in to help Revtash Kumar.
Why Punjab Government or ET?? Why can't WE sponsor him? I request ET to setup sort of donation box online so that we all can contribute.
Thanks
Congrats buddy. i hope our govt takes notice and invest in your education. you need to be rich in order to get in nice schools otherwise being poor and smart doesn't get you anywhere in our education system. keep up the hard work!
Good work. Apply to the colleges for admission. Worry about the money at the end. Who knows, even ET may sponsor his education as a scholarship !
He must continue his education. I pray someone from government take notice of this and provide him scholarship.
Bravo Revtash Kumar, I hope Punjab Govt will come forward to support him.
Why religion has got to do here?
Congratulation. He knows that education is ticket to good living. hope others take inspiration from him. Family income is not corelated to great marks.
