The judiciary has no right to reject the people’s mandate, Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa said on Thursday.
Addressing bureaucrats at the National School of Public Policy, the governor said, “A country can survive under an autocratic ruler, but no society can flourish in the absence of justice.”
He said that a commission of judges and lawyers, should select candidates to serve in the superior courts. Khosa said there was no harm in criticising a government. However, such criticism should not seek to harm the political system.
Khosa said that safeguarding the solidarity of Pakistan was PPP’s foremost priority. He said all stake-holders should respect democratic norms and the constitution. He said commitment to democratic values was the need of the hour. The governor said corruption became rampant when politicians chose to place themselves above the state’s interest.
