KARACHI:

Lawyers of the Malir Bar Association will suspend their work today (Friday) to mourn the death of a bar member, Mazhar Ali Soomro, who passed away on Thursday.

“It is customary to observe a day of mourning whenever a bar member passes away,” said the association’s president, Ashraf Samoo. “The Sindh High Court and its bar association also follow the same policy.”

The courts, however, will be open. “We’ll do our work but without lawyers, there will be no legal proceedings,” said the Malir courts superintendent, Muhammad Chhutan Rahimoo, while talking to The Express Tribune.

The association boycotted work on Thursday as well against the murder of a judge in Quetta.

“If one of your own passes away, you need to express solidarity with the bereaved family,” said the association’s general secretary, Lutfullah Seelro. Soomro was admitted at the hospital after being injured in an accident a few days back.
