City govt to observe Anti-Dengue Day on Sep 2

LWMC ’s anti dengue week will also start on Sunday.

The city district government will observe an Anti-Dengue Day on September 2. All Lahore Development Authority (LDA) offices and schools run by it will remain open on the day. The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) will also observe an anti dengue week starting from September 2.


This was announced by Acting District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ahad Khan Cheema on Tuesday while presiding over a meeting at the Town Hall.

Cheema also directed the LWMC, the Punjab Horticulture Authority and the Water and Sanitation Agency workers to provide five employees in each union council on the Anti Dengue Day.

He directed the Executive District Office (Education) Pervaiz Akhtar to mobilise 1,000 boy scouts on Sunday. He said 100 scouts will be posted in each town.

The acting DCO also directed the social welfare district officer to ensure the participation of 8,000 volunteers.

Cheema directed the Data Gunj Bakhsh Town deputy district officer (Health) to inspect all the under construction sites in Islampura.

Cheema also directed the district officer (cooperatives) to hold a meeting with the secretaries of 67 cooperative housing societies to ensure that their managements were keeping the area clean.

He said an anti-dengue campaign should be started at each of these societies on Sunday.

A cleanliness drive will be launched at all the LDA-owned premises under the supervision of focal persons nominated by the LDA director general.

The focal persons will ensure proper fogging and spraying of insecticide at the premises, visit the junkyards and stores and, inspect roof-tops of all LDA buildings and remove any waste material found there and also ensure that drains are open and free from any obstruction.

Principals of all LDA schools will arrange seminars on Dengue Eradication Measures in which students of grades 8, 9 and 10 will participate.

LWMC’s Anti Dengue Week

The LWMC workers will conduct community-based anti dengue awareness activities across the city, biggest of these in Qila Gujar Singh on Wednesday (today), where MNA Hamza Shahbaz will be the chief guest.

Shahbaz will join one of the district government teams going door-to-door to educate the citizens. Waste collection bags will also be distributed among households and residents to encourage healthy practices of waste disposal.
