RAWALPINDI:

Security at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) and the adjacent Chaklala Airbase was increased on Saturday following terror threats.

A number of Rangers officials were deputed around the airport and the base due to fresh threats following the deadly attack on PAF Base Minhas in Kamra 10 days back, airport officials told The Express Tribune.

Rangers have been deputed at all important entry and exit places with increased patrolling around the airport and sensitive installations, officials said.

The Airport Security Force personnel have also been told to be more vigilant and conduct increased body and vehicle searching and scanning of the luggage.

Suspected TTP member held

Separately, security agencies arrested on Saturday a man believed to be an active member of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Bangash Colony.

The man, Mazhab Khan from Mohmand Agency, was found taking photos and recording videos of sensitive installations in the garrison city, official sources said.

The authorities later found images of high value buildings and offices in his possession as well.

The intelligence officials said they arrested another suspected miscreant from Swabi using information that Khan provided during interrogation.

However senior police officials did not confirm the arrests, saying they did not know if the security agencies had picked up anyone.
