Afridi, who was playing for Ruhuna Royals, had to leave for Pakistan immediately as his wife was reported to be unwell.
A senior official of the SLPL organising committee has said that Afridi will return if the “issues get resolved”.
The Ruhuna Royals are scheduled to play against Basnahira Cricket Dundee on August 25.
Afridi has so far scored 52 runs and has taken two wickets in the league. His highest score was 36 against Kandurata Warriors.
According to an agreement, Pakistani cricketers playing ODIs against Australia in Sharjah will leave Sri Lanka midway through the tournament.
