SC summons DG Environment Punjab

The Supreme Court (SC) has stepped in to ensure provision of safe drinking water to the citizens of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The two cities are being provided contaminated water from the Rawal Dam Lake but in spite of repeated demands, no remedial measure has been taken so far.

On Monday, the Supreme Court took a suo moto action and summoned the Federal Director General Environment, Asif Pasha.

The DG informed the court that filth, garbage and sewarge water were being discharged in the dam but no action has been taken to check it.

The court has now summoned DG Environment Punjab to appear before the court on August 25 to explain this inaction. The court has also asked the CDA to look into the possibility of shifting poultry farms situated in the catchment areas.
