Gomal zam dam project: 8 labourers go ‘missing’ in S Waziristan

Project director says labourers were travelling in 2 pickups, heading back to DI Khan at the end of 14-day work shift.

Eight labourers, working at the Gomal Zam Dam in South Waziristan went missing on Wednesday, Gomal Zam Dam’s Project Director Salim Khan told The Express Tribune.


Khan said that workers, who were travelling from the dam site towards Dera Ismail Khan, disappeared en route to their destination, adding that a search operation was currently underway, but they had failed to trace them as of yet. The project director said that they were travelling in two pickup vehicles and heading back to DI Khan at the end of their 14-day work shift.

The missing labourers include Shahid Khan, a junior engineer from Swat, Sanaullah, a mechanic from Tank, Munir, a cook from D I Khan, supervisors Zeeshan and Zejaj from Dir, driver Malik Siraj, Pakistan Army driver Mushtaq and sanitary worker Liaqat from DI Khan.
