A woman gave birth outside the labour room at Civil Hospital in Gujranwala on Wednesday.
Irum’s husband, Muhammad Naeem, a resident of Ratta Bajwa, said he took his wife to the hospital at around 2am.
He said the staff at the ward told him there was no doctor available to attend her. Seeing his wife in pain, he said, he requested the nurses to take her in, but they kept them waiting. Half-an-hour later, he said, his wife gave birth to a baby girl outside the ward. He said he and some of his family members threatened the nurses with prosecution.
He said then the nurses present there took his wife inside. The mother and the daughter were taken home after a few hours.
Deputy Medical Superintendent Shabbir Toor said he was not informed about the incident. He said he had not received any complaint either. However, he said, he would look into the matter.
