Meet the press: ‘Citizens’ support crucial to crime control’

SP says cases where people promptly reported the crime were solved quickly.

BAHAWALPUR:

The crime cannot be controlled without the cooperation of the citizens, Police Lines Superintendent of Police Azhar Gujjar said on Wednesday.

He was briefing the media about police performance in July.

He said it had been observed that cases where people promptly reported a crime, the police were able to solve it quickly.

In July, he said, the police arrested nine hardened criminals and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs2.5 million, six pistols, a mouser, a carbine, 11 motorcycles, a truck, a television set, five mobile phones and more than 1,000 liters of liquor from them. Separately, he said, SHO Muhammad Afzal Lodhi of the Police Lines police station, had arrested three men and recovered 315 bottles of imported liquor and four kilogrammes of hashish from them. Those arrested were identified as Muhammad Imran, Naveed Sukhera, Saeed Ahmad, Muhammad Munir, Jehangir, Tanveer, Rizwan, Aslam and Ibrahim.

The SP said that the list of all unsolved cases was being prepared. The Bahawalpur district police officer and deputy superintendent of police have been nominated as the focal persons in this matter, he said.
