KARACHI: Nearly 300 prisoners were released from different prisons across the province following a grant of special remissions on August 14. Sindh IG for prisons, Ghulam Thebo, granted remissions of up to two months in the sentences of the prisoners. These remissions were issued on the directives of the Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice, Mushir Alam, during his visit to Central Jail in Karachi. Alam visited different barracks and listened to the grievances of the prisoners. A large number of prisoners complained about the inability to pay fines imposed on them by the trial courts which were then paid by philanthropists.
