All personnel were ordered to report for duty at 7am for the flag hoisting ceremony but when one constable came late, his gate in charge made him do sit-ups and beat him with a stick as punishment.
Dozens of people, including passersby and other police personnel, witnessed the act.
The country is celebrating its 65th Independence Day today, which started off with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in Karachi, Quetta, Lahore and Peshawar.
Correction: An earlier version of the story incorrectly stated "66th" instead of "65th". The error is regretted.
