Environment: Sartaj Aziz recognised in India

The award is given ever year to an individual, corporation or association serving the interest of the humanity

Beaconhouse National University Vice Chancellor Sartaj Aziz has been awarded the MS Swaminathan Award for Environment Protection, a handout issued on Monday said.


Dr K Rosaiah, governor of the state of Tamil Nadu, said on the occasion that the award is given ever year to an individual, corporation or association serving the interest of the humanity in the broad sphere of environment protection.

The award is named after MS Swaminathan, known as the Father of the Green Revolution in India and founder of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation.

The recipients of the award include Dr Joseph Hulse, Prof Jeffrey D Sachs and Dr Ismail Serageldin.

Aziz has served as the finance minister in the Pakistan Muslim League-led government in 1997.
