Obama applauds Muslim women Olympians
US President Barack Obama celebrated women athletes from Muslim nations who are making their debut in the Olympics as he marked the holy month of Ramazan on Saturday.
“Here in America, we are incredibly proud of Team USA,” Obama said, noting that a majority of the American delegation to the London Olympics were female.
“Also, for the very first time in Olympic history, every team now includes a woman athlete. One of the reasons is that every team from a Muslim majority country now includes women as well,” Obama said, at an annual iftar dinner grouping prominent members of the US Muslim community at the White House.
Among athletes making history in London was middle distance runner Sarah Attar who made history by becoming the first female to represent Saudi Arabia in Olympics track and field.

I don't get why "Muslim" women are being congratulated in taking part in the Olympics. Muslim women have participated for years because those women are allowed by their country's leaders. So its not a case of Muslim women participating it's more or less leaders of said countries, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Afghanistan etc that have finally allowed their women. Islam has nothing to do with this.
@sam: Very true Sam, the Brits denied women's participation in public life in Saudi Arabia. They also barred half of the humanity in Saudi Arabia from things like driving car or going out of their homes without a male relative. This is what happens when the "ignorant" Brits follow a "haram" unwritten constitution instead of Sharia!

muslim women always participated in all social activities.since British colonial regime started muslim women were restricted to homes.as muslims gain strength our women will again come back and participate.but we our freedom for women is not to provide cheap labour for factories as western did.Its our religion and culture.
