UPPER DIR:

Security forces on Tuesday repulsed an attack by militants on a security check-post near the Pak-Afghan border in Barawal Tehsil of the district, killing at least two militants.

A security official said over 20 militants attacked the Sunai Darra check-post from across the border with heavy weapons at around 1:00 pm.

“We gunned down two militants while the clash continued till 4pm,” the official said. The fleeing militants took away the bodies of their fallen comrades.

In June, 17 security personnel were killed when dozens of militants from Afghanistan attacked security check-posts in Sunai Darra and Gulunu Sar area of Barawal.

The attacks on the border check-posts show that the insurgents from Afghanistan have accelerated their terrorist activities despite several military operations in the troubled areas. The border areas have been volatile since the start of the militants’ summer assault.
