A meeting at the Sindh chief minister’s residence on Monday was informed that certain militant groups, especially the Taliban were collecting extortion money or “bhatta” in Karachi.
The meeting was jointly chaired by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
Since the police had no facility to trace callers who are threatening citizens for extortion money, the federal government asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited to supply a Call Detail Record (CDR) to the respective IG police.
The meeting also decided that more areas of Karachi will be patrolled henceforth, including highways, to prevent extortion crimes.
It was claimed that the Taliban’s involvement in such crimes, particularly against the business community, has been witnessed. However, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that with the concerted efforts of the police, Rangers, law enforcement agencies and the general public, the law and order situation had rapidly improved in the city.
Malik said that the objective of criminals was to destabilise Karachi. He warned the target killers, ‘bhatta khors’ and the ‘perchi mafia’ of fierce action if crimes were not curtailed.
The meeting was further informed that 133 ‘bhatta’ collectors had been arrested by the police and Rangers from January to August. Furthermore, over the last few months, 55 policemen and two rangers were martyred in action against criminals. It was also decided that paramilitary forces will take action against Taliban dens and other criminals while exercising zero tolerance.

Give powers to MQM or else they will continue this... even i m a urdu speaker but now i am sick of Muttahida -_- May Allah Bless Pakistan
ONe can only laugh at his claims. There is no change on the streets with respect to crimes. Every day every minute people are being looted in Karachi. The culprits get caught but their faces are hidden why? They are then let off. Show their faces as we see on Indian channels. They show faces of suspects and criminals when arrested coz that itself is a deterrent. Why dont they show their faces. They somehow want to protect identities so that people should not know who is doing it. Please show their faces on television and press whenever they are caught. Ths CM is going to improve the situation. Forget it. He has not donein five years now will he do? No way. But if he does that will be great for Karachi. We will garland him and weigh him in flowers.
At his age the CM must be getting senile. Sitting next to them he seems to have forgotten the masters of bhatta the MQM.
Political stunt .All Rubbish
I remembered u said that there were no Taliban in city.
@Parvez: You forgot to mention JI and Sunni Threeq.
Isn't the same CM who said it earlier that there are no Taliban in Karachi? Thats what happened when you alter the reality and make joke out of it. Now deal with it.
when NATO (Included usa) also paying Bhatta to Taliban for safe passage. who will help of CM, sindh.
It is always the case, the game is started by some one but taken over by others and taken to the next hight by next gernation, new comers, Karachi city is not exempted from the universal law. Now beg the old days glory. God bless us all, love you all.
we do not want to know who is involved in this activity but why is the government not doing enought to stop them
Hahahahahaha !!!!!
If you are not capable of dealing an important issue then tagging it with TALIBAN is best justification to poor people.
There is no rocket science involved to catch the "Bhatta Collectors". One just has to get the info from the shops and business men who are approached and offer them security. They just don't want to do it because they are all (PPP, MQM, ANP and Police) involved. Pakistan Zindabad!
@Ahmad: Taliban has actually started replacing RAW when it come to the blame game! Some PPP stalwarts even found Taliban in the Liyari mess also!!
good Joke:)
It seems "Taliban" is the dumping ground for all the problems..
I went to Irum Shopping Center, Gulsitane Johar, last week for clothes. My tailor - a Muhajir himself - was very angry over MQM bhatta. Everyone in the shopping center has to pay as per their capacity. Initially they asked around 100,000 from each shopkeepers but settled down for 10k-20k. I wonder why people forget Gen Zia here!?
Talibans involved in Bhatta, so Mr. CM & Rehman Baba what about MQM, PPP, ANP, JI etc?? Are they angels ???
So your saying that the MQM, ANP, PPP have all joined the Taliban ?? It makes sense at a certain level.
Malik and his warnings :) what a joke!!!
Shabash! Screw Pakistan for you ulterior motives MQM.
