Two young men on a motorbike were killed in a shootout with police at Chobacha Chowk in the early hours of Sunday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nazar Abbas said that Mustafabad police set up a picket at the chowk on Saturday night to check dangerous motorcycle drivers.

He said that around 3:30am, two young men on a motorcycle appeared and were signalled to stop.

He said that the motorcycle driver tried to speed away, while his pillion pulled out a gun. He said that the motorbike slipped and after a brief chase of the men on foot, a shootout ensued. He said that the men fired the first shot. One of the men died of his injuries at the scene, the other later at Services Hospital.

He said that the men had not been identified yet, but they were suspected to have robbed a man named Shehzad of his cash and mobile phone in Mughalpura police jurisdiction earlier last night.

He said that Shehzad, who had reported the robbery on the 15 police helpline prior to the shootout, later identified the bodies as belonging to the same men who robbed him, while they had also been carrying his phone.

He said that the police had also found Rs8,000 in cash and a 0.30 bore pistol with three bullets.
