LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday issued a stay order against the recent appointments of assistant directors (AD) in the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA). LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial issued the order on the petition of Nasrullah Tahir who said an earlier LHC order had directed that AD posts be filled though promotion, and not new recruitment. He said the LDA DG Ahad Khan Cheema and WASA managing director Mian Abdullah were appointing people to these jobs in violation of court orders. He asked the court to declare the appointments illegal and unconstitutional. He also asked the court to stay the appointments process till the petition is decided. The court stayed the appointment process till the next hearing on September 14. The court also summoned the WASA MD on the hearing for his response.
