RAWALPINDI: Temperatures are running high in Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (AAU) over controversial appointments as the recently retired vice-chancellor (VC) allegedly continues to influence the hiring process. On Tuesday, three employees’ associations held a demonstration, locked the AAU’s administrative block and stopped the newly-appointed registrar from working. Representatives of the Academic Staff Association (ASA), Officers’ Welfare Association and the Employees’ Welfare Association Arshad Nawaz stopped from entering his office and protested against anti-dated appointment letters to candidates inducted without the university syndicate’s approval. “Punjab government’s silence over the illegal appointments is inexplicable,” said ASA President Dr Nadeem Abbasi.
