Dengue update: 21 new cases reported in Karachi

KARACHI: During the last week 21 new cases of dengue were reported in Karachi. This is the highest number of cases reported so far this year at the Dengue Surveillance Cell established in the Civil hospital. The total number of cases reported this year has now reached 126. All these cases were reported from Karachi, according to a report released by the cell. Showing a month-wise breakdown of the total number of cases, 11 cases were recorded in January, 14 in February, eight in March, 12 in April, 16 in May, 28 in June  and  39 in July. Interestingly the number of cases this year was much higher than last year. There were 84 cases reported for till July 2011 as compared to 126 this year. The in charge of the cell, Dr Shakeel Aamir Mullick, said that the rise is due to a change in temperature.
