Last swim: Fifth man drowns in two days

ISLAMABAD: Deaths by drowning in nullahs continued on Thursday as rescue and police officials recovered another body from Soan River near Bhara Kahu. It was the fifth death by drowning in two days. Police said Abdul Qadir, 24, a resident of sector G-7, went missing in the afternoon from his house. Passersby spotted a body in nullah near Toll Plaza on Murree Road in Bhara Kahu and called rescue and police officials. Police said the body was pulled out from the nullah by local divers and rescue officials. From documents on the body, the man was identified as Qadir, who went missing earlier in the day. Police said they had informed his family. Qadir’s friend told police that they had gone for a swim in the river. Qadir went into deep waters and was swept away. They tried to rescue him but failed. They called police and Rescue 1122 but by the time they arrived, Qadir had been swept away, said Bhara Kahu police.
