Police commandos launch search operation, arrest 24.

KARACHI: At least three people died and five sustained injuries when security guards opened fire during a scuffle between union administration and shopkeepers in Sohrab Goth, Express News reported Sunday.

The bodies of the deceased -- identified as Shah Faisal, Mirza and Abdul Rasool -- were taken to Super Highway by their families, who staged a protest there.

When officials from police and Rangers learnt about the incident, they reached the protest site and tried negotiating with the families. The officials informed the family members that two suspects were rounded up. The protest was later ended.

Police and other law enforcement agencies reached the residence of union President Haji Jannat Gul and arrested his brother Ziarat Gul.

Unknown gunmen opened fire upon Ziarat’s arrest, which injured Station House Officer (SHO) Sohrab Goth Sultan Mehsud and Check Post Incharge Ahsan Marwat. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Police commandos launch search operation

Police commandos launched a search operation in Sohrab Goth in the aftermath of the incident and rounded up 24 suspects.

Police entered al Asif square, Jannat Gul Town, Pakistan Post Office Society, Super Highway during the operation. The police also seized two 9mm pistols from a suspect.

Business activities remained suspended in the area.

Criminal arrested

A police encounter at Kala Pul in Karachi led to the arrest of an alleged criminal on Sunday.

The criminal, identified as Ali Hassan Afghani, confessed to killing five people as well as being involved in various robberies.

Along with a cache of weapons, 35 stolen mobile phones were also recovered from him.

The police is carrying out raids to arrest his accomplices.
