Police defuse 13kg bomb near school in Karachi

Bomb contained around 13kg of explosives as well as ball bearings, say BDS officials.

KARACHI: Thwarting a terrorism attempt, police managed to defuse a 13kg bomb planted near Safura Chowrangi on University Road, Express News reported on Friday.

The bomb, placed inside a cement block, was planted near a school. Upon being alerted by the school’s gatekeeper, police and the bomb disposal squad (BDS) reached the scene and defused the bomb.

According to BDS officials, the bomb contained around 13kg of explosives as well as ball bearings. The bomb also had a detonator, signifying that it was remotely controlled.

Earlier, in a similar incident, the BDS managed to disarm a bomb placed in an empty plot on the Super Highway near the the Rangers’ Sachal Wing headquarters.

The bomb carried 12 kilograms of explosives as well as ball bearings and was made in an oil canister.
