Ramazan security: ‘Hate speech will not be tolerated’

DPO said 893 police officials would be deployed in the district in the month.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Clerics and prayer leaders found practising hate speech in sermons during Ramazan will be penalished in accordance with the law, Rahim Yar Khan district police officer Sohail Zafar Chatta said on Tuesday. He was speaking after a meeting to review security arrangements for the month. The DPO said posters and banners with objectionable material and wall chalking were prohibited and action would be taken against people found putting up such material. He said 893 police officials would be deployed in the district in the month. These officials would be helped by 858 volunteers and 429 mosque committee members to perform security duties at 429 mosques and 26 imambargahs. He said 33 Elite Force officials would patrol the district on motorcycles. He added a control room would be established in the office of the DPO to monitor security arrangements. The DPO said under the Ahtaram-e-Ramazan Ordinance, restaurants, theatres and cinemas will not be allowed to do business until sunset. He warned vendors against hoarding and overpricing.
