
A total of 10 people were brought to the hospital in Ludan late Wednesday night with symptoms of gastroenteritis. They included six-year-old Mehreen Bibi who passed away while the rest are under treatment.
Azra Bibi, a resident of chak no42 in Muzaffargarh, died at a relief camp in Khanewal. The camp officials stated that she was afflicted with gastroenteritis but there was no medicine at the camp to treat her.
Hamza, a 3-year-old boy from Jampur, whose mother, Musarat Bibi, 22, had died four days ago, passed away on Wednesday. Ali Raza, a one-year-old, was reported to be in critical condition.
Several gastroenteritis cases were also reported in Khan Garh where on Wednesday four-year-old Ammar, MQM district leader Rana Gul Sher’s nephew, died. Those admitted to the hospital included Muhammad Tariq, Faiz Bukhsh, Zamir Ahmed, Khadija, Sughran Bibi, Nasreen, Kaneez, Waqas Ahmed and Rehan Ali.
6-year-old Adnan and 45-year-old Mai Jan died due to lack of proper treatment in a relief camp in Uch Sharif.
Nine members of the same family including Muhammad Latif, Mohsin, Roshan, Hasan, Aza and Muqadas were shifted to the hospital.
45 people were shifted to the hospital with gastroenteritis symptoms in Taunsa.
A woman and two children – Khani Mai, Shazia and Zur Juma – afflicted with gastroenteritis died on Wednesday as there was no doctor or medicines in the relief camp in Sakhi Sarwar.
Talking to The Express Tribune, their families said that they had not been provided with any medical relief at the camp. They said another five people diagnose with gastroenteritis had been sent to a hospital as there was no hope for them at the camp.
Dera Ghazi Khan:
Three people who died at the District Headquarters Hospital on Wednesday had symptoms of cholera, The Express Tribune has learnt.
Dr Wamiqur Rehman, the hospital’s medical superintendent (MS), said that they had been receiving large numbers of people with cholera symptoms. He said that they had sent stool samples to the National Institute of Health Sciences, Islamabad and the exact figure of the affected people could only be ascertained after the reports came in.
Zeeshan, a teenager, was admitted to the DHQ Hospital on Wednesday with symptoms of cholera.
The doctors on duty said that his brother and sister, who were attending to him, had also been admitted with cholera symptoms. Office bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association, DG Khan chapter, who are working at medical relief camps, told The Express Tribune that their offer to treat people affected by cholera, malaria and gastroenteritis had been declined by the district administration. The group included president Dr Abdul Latif Chandya, general secretary Dr Jawwad and Dr Tahir Farid Turk and Dr Amjad Pervaiz.
They said that the medicines received in aid were not being used equitably by the administration to provide relief to the patients.
They said that when they asked the EDO( Health) that they needed medicines to treat people in relief camps, they were told that the medicines had been sent to Taunsa Hospital, while the MS there had denied receiving them.
Rahim Yar Khan:
According to a Health Department report, around 110,000 patients affected by gastroenteritis and other diseases have been treated at its 30 medical camps so far.
Of the total, 13,950 were suffering from skin diseases, 7,430 from chest infections and 6,000 from eye inflections.
As many as 30 snake bite and 12 dog bite cases were treated at these camps.
7,995 were injected against measles and 1,815 against tetanus. 10,312 children were provided with a vitamin A dosage.
