Cricket Australia sends officials to UAE

Team to submit report on arrangements ahead of Pakistan series.

News Desk July 15, 2012

Cricket Australia (CA) has sent a four-member team to the UAE to examine arrangements ahead of the series against Pakistan that gets underway next month, reported Daily Express.

The team is expected to examine security, weather and travel arrangements during its three-day trip, starting today, before submitting a report to the board. It will also be accompanied by two officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Pakistan and Australia are scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals, starting on August 28, and a same number of Twenty20s with Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai being among the venues.

UAE had been finalised as the venue after Sri Lanka ruled out hosting the series due to its commitments with organising the first Sri Lankan Premier League. While Malaysia was also considered as an option, the PCB finalised the UAE option.

Despite concerns looming over the hot weather conditions, the schedule was designed to reduce its impact with all six internationals being night encounters. However, concerns were still voiced by the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) that stated that late-night finishes would create ‘safety issues’. Following the development, the CA has sent the team comprising its general manager cricket operations, security manager, team manager and a ACA official.
