Boucher decided to end his 15-year international career after a serious eye injury suffered during a warm-up game against Somerset that left him needing three hours of surgery. Boucher is set to return to South Africa to begin his recovery and Tsolekile will join up with the squad ahead of the three-Test series which starts at The Oval next week.
Meanwhile, Jacques Kallis, who was a close friend of Boucher, said that it was not about cricket any more.
“It’s about a mate and hoping he recovers fully,” said Kallis. “It puts cricket and life into perspective. It’s been a very tough 24 hours not only for myself but for his family and teammates. All we can do is be there and support. He’s in good hands and he has all of our well wishes as well as from people around the world.”
