KARACHI: Former leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has been suspended from playing in Pakistan after his life ban in England for corruption while playing for Essex in the county championship.

A Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said on Monday Kaneira would be unable to play until a decision had been reached on any appeal from the player.

Cricket chiefs had earlier called for a global lifetime ban for Kaneria after he was punished for his role in an English spot-fixing scandal.

Kaneria was banned for life for his involvement in the Mervyn Westfield spot-fixing case. He had vowed to appeal the sanction.
