It’s capitalism: Employees protest against multi-national companies

Multi-national corporations exploit their workers, many of whom have been working in nonpermanent jobs for up to 20 years, claimed employees of the Liberty Power Plant, Fauji Fertiliser Company, Engro Chemical Company and others. They belonged to the Watan Dost Mazdoor Federation and protested against the “anti-labour policies” of big corporations in Mirpur Mathelo on Sunday.

The protesters, led by Abdul Haq Chachar, Abdul Haq Khatiyan, Mohammad Umer Shar and others, accused the companies of discriminating against them, as they would only give permanent jobs to workers from outside the area. Most corporations book contractors, who are then responsible for hiring labourers and negotiate wages and other benefits with them.

The workers are divided into skilled and unskilled categories, with wage rates for both generally predefined.
