Golden jubilee: KU to hold BioCon 2012 from July 9

KARACHI: The biochemistry department of the Karachi University (KU) will organise a five-day international conference titled BioCon 2012 from July 9 to July 13 in order to mark its 50th anniversary. The department’s chairperson, Prof. Dr Nikhat Ahmed Siddiqui, said that the conference will showcase the progress of classical biochemistry in the post-genomic era. Researchers and academics from all over the world have been invited to share their expertise. Workshops as well as speaker and poster sessions covering a wide range of topics will be conducted. “A Young Scientist Forum, which will provide an opportunity to young researchers to show their work, will also be held on July 12,” said Prof. Siddiqui. The conference will cover a variety of scientific disciplines, including clinical biochemistry, biotechnology, toxicology, neuroscience and genomics. Two special workshops that aim at developing technical skills of doctorate students and researchers will also be held.
