Tax recovery: ETD fails to achieve target for 2011-12

Excise and Taxation Director says department had recovered only 85 per cent of Rs1.57 billion in Faisalabad.

FAISALABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department (ETD) could not achieve its recovery target for 2011-12. Excise and Taxation Director Akram Ashraf Gondal told The Express Tribune that the department had recovered only 85 per cent of Rs1.57 billion in Faisalabad. “The amount recovered this year is Rs1.209 billion. It is more than what we recovered last year,” he said. He said that Rs566 million property tax was recovered out of a target of Rs678 million; Rs561.5 million motor vehicle tax out of a Rs591 million target; Rs47 million professional tax out of a target of Rs53.2 million; Rs93.8 million excise duty out of a target of Rs94 million; Rs7 million entertainment tax out of a target of Rs11 million; Rs15.8 million hotel tax of and Rs71.8 million cotton fee.
