LAHORE:

The house of former national cricketer Kamran Akmal  was swept clean of 35 tola of gold on Sunday, in yet another incident of burglary to plague the posh localities of Lahore.

Akmal, resident of House 293 in sector EE of Defence-A, registered an FIR with the police under section 381, alleging that around 35 tola of gold had been stolen from his house.

Domestic helpers have been nominated as responsible for the theft.

According to the FIR, three maids had been recruited into the domestic help in Akmal’s household on the recommendations of one of his servants.

On Saturday, the three had left the house, assuring that they will report for duty the next day.

However, the maids never turned up for work on Sunday. More importantly, jewellery belonging to Akmal’s wife was missing.

According to cantonment area Superintendant Police Mahroof Wahla, the three servants had been recruited without proper documents in the first place.

According to him, the only information that the Akmal household did have about the alleged culprits was that they belonged to Charar village, located on the outskirts of Lahore.

“It seems that only gold has been stolen while other valuables remained intact,” said the police official.

“Kamran’s family remains reluctant in granting permission to police to investigate the maid who was responsible for recommending the maids,” he added.

In a further development late Sunday night, Akmal informed the police that his earlier estimates of the amount of stolen gold might have been incorrect: around 40 tola of gold were missing from the house.
