Traffic, crime: Separate police force for Ring Road

Personnel for the special force – above grade 14 – will be inducted

Press Release June 27, 2012

LAHORE: The Lahore Ring Road will have a special police force to control traffic and check crime. This was decided on Wednesday in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at his camp office at Minar-i-Pakistan. The proposed special police force will be part of the Punjab Police, however, there won’t be any inter-departmental transfers. All the hiring will be independent. Personnel for the special force – above grade 14 – will be inducted through the Public Service Commission while the rest of the staff will be recruited by a committee. It was also decided that traffic management on the road will be monitored through a control room. In addition, two weigh bridges will be constructed on entrances to the Lahore Ring Road.
