Death of newborn: Doctor found guilty of negligence

Newborn died due to alleged mishandling by untrained nurses in the absence of the woman medical officer.

HARIPUR: A team of senior doctors probing the death of a newborn in Women and Children Hospital have found the accused medical officer guilty of negligence. Official sources at the office of Assistant Coordination Officer (ACO) Haripur Khyzer Hayat Khan told The Express Tribune that the inquiry team has recommended disciplinary action against Dr Shah Bano, the woman medical officer of the hospital’s gynaecology ward. Dr Bano was accused of negligence by Chabzeb and his wife Shazia Bibi after the couple’s newborn died due to alleged mishandling by untrained nurses in the absence of the woman medical officer. The probing team comprised of Dr Kibriya, Dr Muhammad Yousuf, and Dr Habibur Rehman submitted the inquiry report to ACO Haripur, who has forwarded it to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Health for disciplinary action. Dr Bano is serving on contract basis and could face termination from service.
