The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) has started work on issuing counsel codes to identify “fake” lawyers from submitting letters-of-attorney to plead cases in subordinate courts.
The LBA will issue counsel codes to its 12,500 members. The LBA began work on this initiative after it received complaints from lawyers.
The LBA has held several meetings with District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed and Senior Civil Judge Chaudhry Farrukh Hussain. Speaking with The Express Tribune LBA general secretary Asad Zaidi said the LBA would hand over the data of lawyers to the senior civil judge within the week and then the counsel codes would be issued.
He said every lawyer will mention their code on their letter of attorney. He said this practice would aid in identifying fake lawyers.
He said that a law student, impersonating a lawyer, had been caught in one of the recent brawls at the courts.
Several lawyers appreciated the LBA’s decision to issue codes to lawyers.
