Coalition meeting discusses Speaker ruling, Supreme Court order

ISLAMABAD: The government took its coalition partners into confidence over its plan to exhaust every possible means to defend the incumbent Prime Minister.

Express News reported that the ruling party and coalition partners of the government convened at the Aiwan-e-Sadar on Saturday evening to discuss the matter of how the Supreme Court had rejected the Speaker National assembly Fehmida Mirza’s ruling that the contempt of court did not constitute the Prime Minister’s disqualification.

On this occasion, Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek gave a detailed briefing on the Supreme Court’s order and the question of disqualification.

He said that even if the SC denounces Mirza's ruling, the matter will still have to be referred to the election commission.

In the meeting chaired by the President, it was decided that both the parliament and the Supreme Court, would be allowed to play their respective roles.

PPP has nothing to do with CJP case

Zardrai told the coalition members that the ruling party was not involved in the Arsalan Iftikhar- Malik Riaz case.

He advised that a transparent inquiry investigate the matter, as per the orders of the Supreme Court to sort the matter.
